Comox Valley Community Foundation Announces $500,000 in Grant Funding for 2020

At its June 25, 2019 Board meeting, the Comox Valley Community Foundation approved the distribution of $500,000 in grants and scholarships for 2020. These funds will be available to students to pursue post-secondary studies and to local charitable organizations to undertake projects and activities to enrich the quality of life of Comox Valley residents.

“We have been entrusted by individuals and organizations to strengthen the vitality of the Comox Valley and we do so by investing in needed and innovative community-based projects,” said Matt Beckett, President of the Comox Valley Community Foundation. “The $500,000 represents an increase of $25,000 over funds allocated in 2019, which will allow us to do even more.”

Over the past 23 years, the Comox Valley Community Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million to over 159 local non-profits and 180 students. These grants and scholarships result from realized investment earnings from the $14 million in endowed funds that have been established by community-minded individuals, businesses and organizations.

Funds will be distributed in four ways:
• Community Enrichment grants are available annually to local registered charitable organizations. Applications for Community Enrichment grants open in August 2019, and funds will be distributed in January 2020. Granting workshops will be held in the late summer. Please visit www.cvcfoundation.org for further information.
• Agency and designated endowment funds provide sustainable, long-term operational funding for a number of local organizations, including North Island College Foundation, Sid Williams Theatre Society, Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, Comox Valley Arts Council, Comox Valley Hospice Society and several others.
• Scholarships are awarded to local residents who are pursuing studies at universities and college, including North Island College.
• Professional Development grants are made to local non-profits to assist in building professional capacity by funding training programs for volunteers and staff.

Founded in 1996, the Comox Valley Community Foundation is a public grant making charity registered with Canada Revenue Agency. One of over 191 community foundations in Canada, the Comox Valley Community Foundation works with local families, businesses and organizations to create endowment funds that will support the Comox Valley and its residents forever.
