CVCF and Vancouver Foundation Confirm Filberg Funds for 2021

The Comox Valley Community Foundation is excited to announce that Vancouver Foundation has once again made the Robert & Florence Filberg Funds available for distribution through the CVCF in 2021.

$269,555 will be available for distribution to local charitable organizations to undertake projects and activities that enrich life in the Comox Valley. The Filberg Funds will supplement the CVCF’s own grant funding for 2021, which will be announced in June.

The funds designated for religious organizations ($41,470) and children and youth ($103,675) will be administered through the CVCF’s Community Enrichment Grant process, while the funds designated for medical/health research ($124,410) will be administered separately.

“This funding augments our existing grants and allows us to fund even more projects,” said Matt Beckett, President of the Comox Valley Community Foundation. “This past year, we received close to $1 million in grant requests, and were only able to fund 30 per cent of the requests received. We are hopeful that these funds will allow us to close that gap.”

“We greatly appreciate Vancouver Foundation’s continued confidence in our ability to distribute the Robert & Florence Filberg Funds in a manner that best addresses the needs of our community,” Beckett added.

As a direct result of the Filberg Funds received last year, the CVCF was able to support Courtenay Recreation’s “Everyone Plays” initiative with a $23,556 grant, which allows children to participate in 8 hours of free and supported play-based children’s programming each week, eliminating financial and accessibility barriers to participation. Also supported was “Clinical Counselling Services for Mental Health and Addictions” through a $13,440 grant to The Salvation Army Comox Valley Ministries, which enables our community’s most vulnerable citizens to access counselling in a supportive and welcoming environment.
