In January the Comox Valley Community Foundation awarded nearly $49,000 to various local organizations that are providing much needed services for the community. These awards represent only a portion of the nearly $100,000 The Foundation will disburse this year.
It is only through the generosity of individuals, families, businesses and organizations that makes this level of financial support to the community possible. When donations are made to The Foundation they are pooled with other gifts and are invested over time so that they provide an ongoing source of income for addressing community needs. Each year The Foundation Board reviews many applications it receives in order to determine how the profits earned will be disbursed.
Benefiting from the expertise of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and sound investment management, there are a number of ways that donors can achieve their charitable goals.
Community Fund: This fund is the heart of the Foundation. Built by both small and large donations, it is designed to have maximum flexibility in order to respond to changing community needs and concerns.
Field of Interest Funds: These funds target an important area of community life. When making a gift, donors can specify what area of interest will most benefit from their investment.
Designated Funds: Donors can direct their gift to a specific charity or issue area. For example, help provide ongoing funding for a senior centre, museum, church or non-profit charitable organization.
Agency Endowment Funds: An attractive option for local charities that currently manage, or are interested in establishing their own endowment fund. This is an easy and efficient way of creating and managing a permanent endowment for an organization.
