LUSH Valley Food Action Society and Comox Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) are very pleased to announce the establishment of the Bunny Shannon Legacy Fund, in memory of one of our community’s most passionate advocates.
Elizabeth “Bunny” Shannon was passionate about raising awareness of the importance of community organizations and was an active supporter of several social and environmental causes in the Comox Valley. Bunny was a leader and advocate of LUSH Valley, serving on its Board of Directors for over 15 years. She also supported Project Watershed and was a founding member of the Comox Valley Social Planning Society. In addition, she cared deeply about the quality of education and served as a Comox Valley School Trustee for 19 years, advocating for the rights of both teachers and students.
Established by Bunny’s family, friends and colleagues, the Bunny Shannon Legacy Fund’s purpose is to empower youth to be active volunteers/workers in their community through engagement in local food systems, including gardening, cooking, agriculture, and related activities. LUSH Valley will be the recipient of the Fund’s capital over a 10-year period to be used to establish and foster youth programming.
Bunny Shannon’s legacy and passionate advocacy honoured.
“Bunny was an incredibly generous and visionary person. It is beautiful to see that generosity and vision be carried forward after her passing through the intentionality of this fund,” says Maurita Prato, Executive Director of LUSH Valley.
“CVCF wishes to thank Bunny’s family, friends and LUSH Valley for choosing to work with us to celebrate Bunny’s legacy, to recognize her significant contributions to our community, and to ensure her legacy lives on,” says Christine Helpard, CVCF’s President. “We consider it a privilege and are grateful for their confidence.”
