CVCF Receives $140,000 from The Robert & Florence Filberg Fund
Funds to supplement 2020 Community Enrichment Grants
An additional $140,000 will be available to the Comox Valley Community Foundation to grant to local charitable organizations in 2020 to undertake projects and activities that enrich the quality of life of Comox Valley residents. These funds, which are in addition to the Comox Valley Community Foundation’s already announced $500,000 in grants and scholarships for 2020, have been made available through Vancouver Foundation’s The Robert & Florence Filberg Fund.
“This is incredibly exciting news for our community. This funding will augment our existing grants and allow us to fund even more applications to meet the needs of our community,” said Matt Beckett, President of the Comox Valley Community Foundation. “Last year we funded less than 50 per cent of the requests received – these funds will close that gap considerably.”
The $140,000 will be administered through the CVCF’s Community Enrichment Grant process for 2020, and will be specifically directed to children and families ($99,707.75) and religious organizations and churches undertaking work in support of identified community needs and priorities ($39,883.09).
Prior to his death Robert J. Filberg established The Robert & Florence Filberg Fund with the Vancouver Foundation. Upon his death, the Vancouver Foundation became the principal beneficiary under the Will. The funds from the disposition of land and timber were permanently endowed and the income earned has been used annually since 1977 to improve life in the Comox Valley, with a focus on children and youth, education, religion, culture and civic improvement.
Applications for 2020 Community Enrichment Grants opened August 1 and close September 27, 2019. A final workshop to assist organizations in preparing their applications will be held Monday, August 19 from 3:30-4:30pm at the Courtenay Museum. Complete details including criteria, eligibility requirements and the application link are available on the CVCF website at www.cvcfoundation.org.
