Become a more effective Board by learning ‘best practices’ in Board Governance.
Comox Valley Community Foundation is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop entitled “Introduction to Board Governance Best Practices” on Monday, January 9, from 9 am-1 pm at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.
This 4-hour, highly engaging workshop, facilitated by Colin Sauer of The Governance Group, is ideal for new or existing Board Directors, Board Chairs, and Executive Directors and is best suited for organizations with at least 1 staff member.
Topics that will be covered include:
• The Governance Game (a good opening that gets everyone involved)
• The three important elements for effective and successful boards
• Orientation to the ‘Governing Effectively’ training booklet (each participant will receive a copy)
• Review and discussion of the ‘Governing Principles’ for Board Directors
• Overview of the ‘Six Elements of Governing’
• Review and discuss roles and responsibilities: of the Board, the Board Directors, the Board Chair, and the Executive Director
• Review of the fiduciary duty and conflict of interest guidelines for board directors
• Building a Leadership Partnership between the Board and the Executive Director
• Practical application of: Policy development, Agenda development, Committee and Task Force structure and Terms of Reference
The workshop is free to attend and is intended for those serving on Comox Valley not for profit and charitable boards and senior staff. This workshop and those that will follow in 2023 are part of CVCF’s $20,000 commitment to support the charitable and not-for-profit sector through training and development for staff and volunteers.
