Comox Valley Community Foundation is hosting an upcoming workshop entitled Introduction to Board Governance for Working Boards on Wednesday, April 12, 9am-1pm, at the Native Sons Hall Lodge Room (lower level). Space is limited and registration is required.
This 4-hour, highly engaging workshop, facilitated by Colin Sauer of The Governance Group, is ideally suited for new or existing board directors. The workshop is intended for board members who are involved in the day-to-day operations of an organization. Significant focus will be placed on the challenges of implementing good governance practices when there isn’t staff to carry out the day-to-day work of the organization.
Topics that will be covered include:
- The three important elements for effective and successful boards.
- Orientation to the ‘Governing Effectively’ training booklet (included for each participant).
- Review and discussion of the ‘Governing Principles’ for Board Directors.
- Overview of the ‘Six Elements of Governing’.
- Review and discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Board in its entirety, a Board Director and the Board Chair.
- Review of fiduciary duty and conflict of interest guidelines for board directors.
- Practical application of policy development, agenda development, and committee and task force structure and terms of reference.
The workshop is free to attend and is an in-person event for board members of Comox Valley’s charities and non-profit societies only. This workshop and those that will follow in 2023 are part of CVCF’s $20,000 commitment to support the charitable and not-for-profit sector through training and development for staff and volunteers.
