Many people find giving to the community foundation an attractive solution for their philanthropic needs. One of the main reasons is that the Foundation is locally focused and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Comox Valley.
Another major reason for giving is that all donations are pooled, invested and kept in perpetuity so that only the interest earned is disbursed on an annual basis. This means that their initial donation will keep on working for generations to come and they still have the opportunity to keep adding to their donation to do even more good.
For some the fact that the Foundation is autonomous and governed by a board of local leaders and not tied to any particular group or agenda is attractive. The Foundation is able to take a broader and inclusive view of the community which helps donors align their philanthropic vision with the community’s needs.
Giving through the Foundation also offers donors flexibility in the types of gifts they can give and also the types of funds that they can help support. For example the Foundation has funds dedicated to supporting youth, health, the arts and special funds that provide bursaries and scholarships for continuing education.
As for types of gifts, the Foundation is able to accept donations in the form of real estate, securities, bequests and a wide variety of other gifts which helps donors maximize tax savings advantages.
The Foundation is a transparent and reputable steward of these financial resources and over the years has proven to be accountable, accessible and responsive to our community’s needs.
Currently the Comox Valley Community Foundation holds and administers over 70 individual charitable and pooled funds. Since 1998 the Foundation has disbursed over $1.2 million in grants to support local charitable organizations.
